Organizing Your Kitchen for Real Life (Not Pinterest)
Real-Life Kitchen Organization
Let’s face it: most of us don’t live in Pinterest-perfect kitchens. But that doesn’t mean your kitchen can’t work better for your real life. Whether you're cooking for a crowd or just trying to find the spatula, these tips can help you reclaim your kitchen without the fuss.
Declutter by Zone
Start with one area—like spices, utensils, or snacks. If they’re hiding in multiple cabinets, pull all like items out together. You need to know everything that exists before making clear decisions. While you’re at it, check expiration dates to make sure you’re not putting back five year old spices that have lost all of their flavor!
Think Accessibility Over Aesthetics
Keep frequently used items accessible, not just pretty. If you always use olive oil and salt with your food, you shouldn’t hide them away in a cabinet that you have to grab from every time you cook!
Contain the Chaos
Bins, baskets, and drawer dividers tame the chaos—use what you already have! If you don’t care too much about matching, check your local thrift store for gently used storage containers.
Maximize Cabinet and Drawer Space
Use shelf risers, turntables, and stacking solutions. Don’t waste that precious vertical space in cabinets! Turntables work wonders for awkward, narrow shelves if you’re constantly knocking over bottles. If you have a problem, there is a solution out there!
Keep Counters Clear
Only keep daily-use items out. If you love baking, but realistically only do it every other week, find storage space for your bulky stand mixer. While it may create a little more work in the future, it saves a lot of mental energy the rest of the time!
